PTSD Causes, Best Healing Methods

If you are wondering “What is PTSD?” you are not alone. The Congress requested to know and sponsored a nationwide research study to collect data from the DoD/VA to determine the cause of post-traumatic stress (PTSD) and the different treatment methods which heal PTSD best and are most cost-effective. Mostly traditional treatment methods used to heal PTSD were selected for the study. Commonly known is the President’s order for the DoD and VA to select their best ten innovative pilot programs created in the attempt to heal PTSD. Long-standing recommendations of The World Health Organization (WHO) how to heal PTSD have not been considered.

Since the 1980s the question “What is PTSD?” has puzzled the research community. Then, the American Psychiatric Association classified post-traumatic stress (PTSD) as a mental disorder and opened the doors for serious research as to its causes. Depending on the orientation of the particular research team different kinds of belief systems emerged. As a result, different kinds of treatment approaches to healing PTSD were innovated. The advance in biomolecular medicine allowed the increased use of medication to reduce symptoms and the emotional trauma.

Then, the VA was faced with the responsibility to evaluate the most appropriate psychotherapies and chose CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) as a short-term treatment modality to heal PTSD. It was expected that symptoms of PTSD would be healed, once patients learned to confront their fears and terrors cognitively. The success rate of 50% seemed significant enough to consider CBT treatment a success. Gains achieved did not always last over time. Veterans would return for further PTSD healing or explore different ways to deal with their inner monsters. However, by necessity, too many veterans have been returning for decades for regular brief appointments to secure their prescription medication, in particular for the so-called secondary symptoms of PTSD, e.g. depression, insomnia. Not all patients react well to medication. Often serious side effects have been experienced.

Once Exposure or Virtual Reality therapy were added to CBT and then, EMDR, for faster results in healing PTSD, it has been puzzling to researchers that during the initial therapy sessions, veterans seemed to have healed their PTSD successfully, yet, would report during their follow-up appointment that they felt bad or even worse than before. Or patients would insist how much better they actually felt; yet, tests failed to confirm their convictions.

The answer to this phenomenon can be found in the large global data base of the World Health Organization (WHO), and in quite a few text books which I remember well from my own professional training. The World Health Organization strongly advises against having patients relive, or recount the life-threatening trauma in an effort to heal PTSD. Independent research in Israel, where the exposure therapy had originated, showed the same result: Patients who were exposed to relive or recount their trauma showed signs of reinforced PTSD. The World Health Organization has found that the victims do best in settings which provide a sense of security and acceptance within the community, followed by some culture-specific cleansing ritual to make the sufferer feel at home again. Since we don’t have these rituals, we need to innovate our own to healing PTSD.

Let me suggest my method of healing PTSD: the Universal Vibrational Therapy TM. Transmute PTSD For Good

The percentage of soldiers diagnosed with post-traumatic stress (PTSD) after their return from combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan has risen to 31`% according to a recent study by researchers of the Walter Reed Army Institute. Another alarming figure is that in June thirty-three active-duty and National Guard soldiers have taken their lives.

The stress levels that our soldiers are exposed to for many months without adequate downtime exceeds by far what we have come to consider the norm for our human nervous system to stay intact. Individual circumstances are not even factored in. Situations at home vary, so do frequency of deployments, exposure to IED’s, concussions, other physical injuries.

It is important to understand that after returning home our veterans’ nervous system will remain in battle mode until allowed to readjust. To switch from combat to civilian code of conduct is in itself a high stress situation. There also may be difficult family issues which need resolution.

It is essential to ensure that our veterans get treatment to unburden their emotional pain, to get the help they need to readjust and to renew their belief in life.
